Caterham Factory
Caterham increases production as demand exceeds expectation

Caterham Cars has responded to a healthy demand for its iconic Seven sportscar by increasing 2009 production levels by around ten percent.

The makers of the classic two-seater have “above-forecast” growth from UK, mainland Europe and further afield, particularly now that its Ford Sigma and Duratec engine range has achieved European Community Small Series Type Approval.

The increase in demand means that Caterham will not only produce around 420 units but will also have to add to the workforce based at its factory in Dartford, Kent.

Additional staff will be recruited to the production side of the business to help with the increased pressure on an order book that is already full until mid-October.

The Caterham Classic

The Classic is one of the best value sports cars on the market. With its low initial cost (from £12,995) , proven reliability, meagre running costs and low depreciation, the cost of owning this true British sportscar has never been lower.

Despite the low cost, the specification is substantial. Included in the standard Classic package is the 1.4 litre K-Series engine, 5 speed gearbox and de Dion rear suspension.

The 1.4 litre K Series power unit produces 105 bhp@ 6000rpm and, with a healthy 95 lbsft of torque, the performance of the Classic is impressive. 60 mph is reached from a standing start in 6.5 seconds and top speed is an ample 110 mph.

The transmission is taken care of by a 5-speed syncromesh gearbox , with 5th gear being an overdrive ratio. This gearbox is ideal for customers with an emphasis on road use. However, for those drivers wishing to obtain the best from the high revving engine, and perhaps looking for the odd foray onto the track, the Caterham designed and built 6-speed close ratio box is always an option.
