Review & Description

Roy Revant is living the hard life of a bounty hunter in a broken city, a city where thousands have died in a mysterious event called the Blast Fall...

Those who survived share the sting of loss. Countless Resembles walk the streets, people whose mangled bodies have been rebuilt with high-tech prosthetic devices. Yet there are those that even science cannot mend. Roy needs a miracle to escape his rut… and one night she falls from the sky. Like countless others Solty is a Resemble, but one unlike the world has ever known. A young girl without a past, soon she will have a family. But in this world, pain and alienation are never too far away.

Solty Rei Volume One contains episodes 1-6: The City Where the Aurora Falls, A New Dawn, The Girl in Blue, Friend, Waterside Panic, and Beloved Daughter. The sci-fi adventure Solty Rei (2005) takes place in the not-too-distant future, 12 years after the mysterious explosion known as the Blast Fall reduced the Earth to a stratified, dystopic urban civilization. The city is divided between pure humans and resembles, people who are part cyborg. Like Lucy in Elfin Lied, the title character conceals formidable powers beneath a waif-like appearance. Solty is entirely cyborg, and her robotic components give her the ability to throw giant mecha around like toys, stop bullets and make incredible leaps. Through a series of mishaps, Solty gets adopted by Ray Revant, an embittered bounty hunter; she takes the place of the daughter he lost in the Blast Fall. Solty Rei feels like it was assembled out of pieces of other series: the gruff warrior with the hidden pain, the klutzy but well-intentioned naïf, and the slapstick side characters seem familiar as soon as they appear.
